Tinted windows provide comfort, looks and safety

Tinted windows allow protection from the sun's harsh sun rays, this is specially important in Aotearoa. Harsh sun rays can be a hazard whilst driving. A tinted window works in protecting you from these harsh rays and in return you will have better visibility of the road, other vehicles and road signs. You will need your aircon less and achieve lower energy consumption, which converts into a lower running cost of your car or work vehicle.
No doubt your private car, ute or work van will look more professional.

           A tinted window can improve comfort, look and the safety of your car

            Over the years we have developed safer, faster, more reliable and energy efficient cars. No doubt that new model cars look the part. Once you have driven one you will never look back. The bottom line is the price ticket. Depreciation on some models can hit as soon as you drive it out of the yard.

            This said you do have an alternative. Window tinting on non-tinted windows on your car or work vehicle can be done easily and at a very affordable price.

           (read one of our other articles on NZ Transport Agency standards on allowed window tinting)

            A full window tint on a passenger car, like a sedan should not cost more than $300 to $400, depending on the film you choose, 3M or ceramic tint films are available. You should let a professional do the job. They will make sure that any film is applied to NZ standards and can also guarantee the work. Your new window tint has to pass a WOF. VLT ratios will be tested and approved by your testing station or mechanic.

           Window tinting is legal in New Zealand up to a certain darkness for cars and vehicles. Visibility is important. The overall visible light transmitted through the front windshield cannot be compromised. Our window tinting experts apply the films to NZ standards and will provide guarantee on their workmanship. We can apply the following window tints:

           · Front side, back side and rear windows for passenger vehicles have an allowance of 35% VLT

           · Any other darkness level restrictions apply to other vehicles, non-passenger vehicles such as work vans and utes, for rear windows

           Your car may be your pride and joy and your work vehicle part of your daily life. Perhaps you spend more time driving than you do at home. It is important that you enjoy it and make it as comfortable as possible.

           Improving your safety;

            The safety of your family or employees should be in the forefront of your mind. Road accidents are the number one killer on our roads.

           Tinted windows improve the safety of your car. They shatter not as easy and flying glass particles are less likely.

            A lot of non-fatal injuries that occur are caused by shattered glass. It is of extreme importance that you make sure that your vehicle's windows are properly tinted. Window tinting can be a lifesaver when it comes to shatter proofing your car windows. Should the window be impacted, it may break, but will more likely stay together. It offers extra protection for passengers and the driver.

            Tinted windows also allow protection from the sun's harsh sun rays, which can be a hazard whilst driving. The tint works in protecting you from these harsh rays and in turn you will have better visibility of the road, other vehicles and road signs. You will need your aircon less and achieve lower energy consumption, which converts into a lower running cost of your car or work vehicle.

Window tinting on cars and commercial vehicles

Short blog that shows legal VLT allowance in New Zealand on cars and commercial vehicle window tinting standards.

           No doubt, tinted windows will give your car new look and feel...

            Don’t believe me, argue with the millions of car owners that have tinted windows. No one will argue, a professional window tint will bring comfort and an esoteric look to your asset. Some critics may say that it reduces visibility. A lighter tints can solve this. The darkness of the tint does not affect UV protection. So the pros are outweighing any argument.

           Before you decide to get your car tinted make sure you look at all the legal requirements, as it is a modification to your commercial or passenger vehicle.

           Let's have a look at New Zealand window tinting allowance as by the NZ Transport Agency. According to the NZ Transport Agency modifications such as window tinting on passenger car windows and commercial non-passenger vehicles are as follows;

           "Visible light transmittance (VLT) is the amount of 'visible' light that passes through a vehicle's windscreen and windows. A clear windscreen has a VLT of approximately 85%, although the VLT can be a low as 70%.

           If an overlay is applied to a window, the overall VLT is measured as the amount of light passing through both the glass and the overlay. This means that if a tinted film overlay of 35% VLT is applied to a front side window that already has 70% VLT, the overall VLT will be well below 35%.

           The overall VLT is checked by using a calibrated VLT meter. Most vehicle testing stations have a VLT meter so you should see them or a reputable window film installer if you would like to have the VLT of your tinted windows measured (get written confirmation of the overall VLT from the installer if you need to)."
